More space was needed in the current Mayo Clinic layout, so hallways and public areas were used to temporarily house those stations. Tasked with finding creative situations to improve the patient vitals experience, we started with how we could create privacy and identified from where we could take space.

We created two separate vitals stations on this floor by carving out the two front corners of the nurses' workstations.

SKYLIGHT

Privacy in the vitals station can be created through the use of forms and colors. The form of the ceiling and walls separates the space from the public areas, while colors can ease stress and create a comforting environment. This can help build patient trust in Mayo, carried throughout their visit. Organic shapes and muted, sophisticated colors provide a comfortable and professional environment.

Taking inspiration from Mayo's newly renovated spaces, our palette features muted, sophisticated, and alluring colors. The consistency gives the hospital a professional look and makes it feel organized, while the familiar colors will make patients feel more comfortable.

Since the chair is the first and main point of interaction between a patient and their vitals experience, focusing on what the patient needs allows us to identify key chair features. The chair will need to be ergonomic and adjust to the patient's body. It must have adjustable functions that accommodate patients with mobility restrictions, and the frame must be sleek enough to allow for the addition of privacy features.
